Joshua Kade Porterfield was born and raised in a small semi-rural town in central Arkansas.  The dark, fecund atmosphere of the American South is a major influence on his work.

He received a BFA from Henderson State University and a Post-Bac certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  He currently splits his time between the Union Square neighborhood of Somerville, Massachusetts and a small house in Boston's North End rented under the name of Peters.
